Tea Party groups supporting Progressive Democrat Wanda Rohl in 16th Congressional District
Yes, you read that headline correctly…some Tea Party groups are actually supporting a Progressive Democrat, Wanda Rohl, who is running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives against Republican incumbent Adam Kinzinger in the 16th Congressional District of Illinois.
Rohl’s campaign manager, Elizabeth Wilke, wrote this DailyKos diary highlighting Kinzinger’s ethical problems, which involved Republican Rep. Aaron Schock of the 18th Congressional District of Illinois goading House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) into donating $25,000 to the Campaign for Primary Accountability, a SuperPAC that supported Kinzinger’s Republican primary campaign against fellow incumbent Republican Rep. Donald Manzullo, which Kinzinger won. Schock had an Federal Elections Commission complaint filed against him, but Kinzinger lost the support of some Tea Party groups, which almost always support Republican candidates.
Some of the Tea Party groups who supported Manzullo during the bitter Republican primary in the 16th District have blatantly refused to support Manzullo, and they’ve even invited Wanda Rohl to some of their events! More importantly, many of the Tea Partiers who supported Manzullo during the primary and are now supporting Rohl in the general election were some of the same Tea Partiers who, two years ago, got Kinzinger elected to Congress in the first place!
Several years ago, Rohl was paralyzed as a result of an ATV accident, but she didn’t let that unfortunate event define her. She used our country’s social safety net to pull herself up by her bootstraps, earn a college degree, and become a social worker.
The race in the 16th Congressional District of Illinois is the competitive congressional race that the national Democratic establishment doesn’t want you to know about. National Democrats have given Rohl’s campaign virtually no help at all, yet Democrats, Independents, and Republicans alike are fed up with Kinzinger, and have provided Rohl with a groundswell of grassroots support.
Here’s Wanda Rohl’s campaign website, Twitter page, and Facebook page!

Nice piece, I came via Peoria Pundit. I also follow you on Dailykos. My handle is different there. I just added you to my twitter feed. Have you ever considered posting at Prairie State Blue? We could use someone covering east central Illinois.
Best,
Just signed up at Prairie State Blue under the handle AaronCamp.
